Sudanese women trample down a small hill of cotton during harvest time in the Gezira. The Gezira, between the White and Blue Niles south of Khartoum, is the country’s most fertile agricultural area by far. Irrigated since the 1920s, it produces a large variety of crops, including cotton, here piled into large mounds to be weighed and packed.
