Chin funeral of child
Funeral of 5-year old girl, Krai Do (Burmese: Kyar Hto) village, hills near Mindat, Chin State, Myanmar. The child fell sick of unknown illness and died within three days. There is no clinic or medical attention beyond Mindat, a three-hour walk. In house of deceased, women and their children from the village attend while the mother weeps. Originally animist, many Chins are now Christian, and the last shaman in this village dies two months ago. The womens' faces are tattooed, traditional among Chin women. It was officially stopped by the government in the 1960s, but still continues in remoter villages, even for women in the 20s.
