Chak pilgrim

Chak pilgrim

A Tibetan pilgrim performing chak - a prostration journey. His forehead already raised in an angry welt after two weeks of prostrating himself along the road from Ta Er monastery in Qinghai, this Tibetan pilgrim estimates his journey to the Jokhang in Lhasa, some 2000 kilometres, will take him another 200 days. The metal-shod blocks of wood protect his hands each time he slides forward on the road.
