Z58 Building
The Z58 Building, Shanghai, designed for a lighting products company by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. A four-storey comprehensive conversion of an existing warehouse, with extensive use of glass, and a facade covered in polished steel trays containg plants. The penthouse suites are for visiting clients, this floor being also surrounded by a shallow moat...Architect Kengo Kuma kept the original building's concrete frame and extended it with new steel structures, which are complemented by natural elements such as water, timber, plants and light. ..Water features prominently throughout the buildind, as seen in the moat-like infinity pool that surrounds the penthouse apartments on the top floor. In the practice of feng shui, water elements are believed to help circulate energy, and in offices and occercial architecture water is directly associated with the flow of money.
