Khalwa
A khalwa, or Qur’anic school, at Wad Abu Salih, northeast of Khartoum. The students’ time is divided between study, which involves recitation and memorization, using wooden tablets prepared daily with different texts, and prayer. During prayer, the .head should properly be pressed to the earth, and the boy centre left rises with grains of sand still adhering to his forehead.. .
