Construction workers
Construction workers starting the day on Chowringhee Road, Calcutta. This was 1976, and the view from my apartment at the time. A strange combination of technologies: steel girders, but extremely manual, unassisted labour. Note the way that the head scarves are tied up so as to make a firm support for carrying the baskets which, yes, go on the head..
