11214.02 Preah Khan
A carved stone guardian with club at the northern entrance to the temple of Preah Khan in Angkor, Cambodia. The corridor beyond on the temple's north-south axis, leads to the central sanctuary.
The temple, which was also a Buddhist university with over 1,000 teachers, and the centre of a small city, was built by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century, dedicated in 1191. This stupa was added later, in the 16th century.
