Banteay Srei pediment
A carved pediment over a doorway at Banteay Srei, the most exquisite of all the temples at Angkor, Cambodia. Located 20 km north of the main temple complex, it was built of red sandstone from local quarries in the second half of the 10th century by Yajnavaraha, one of the counsellors of King Rajendravarman. The temple is on a miniature scale, but renowned for the delicacy of its carving, here a scene in which Narasimha (Vishnu as a lion), claws the king of the asuras Hiranyakasipu.
