Gion-ji
Another, but very private, space at Gion-ji temple is the small walled garden of the chief priest. Against the empty backdrop of white walls, and framed left and right by stands of bamboo, a single upright stone dominates the composition and holds the attention, the more so when spotlit in the evening. The designer, Shunmyo Masuno, is a Zen priest and the acknowledged master of modern Zen gardens. Mito, Japan
