Face tower
Face-tower over the entrance to the temple of Ta Prohm at Angkor in Cambodia. The giant carved face, similar to those at the Bayon, represents the Compassionate Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara but also in the likeness of King Jayavarman VII. This temple, dedicated by the king in 1186 in honour of his mother, was deliberately left by French archeologists as it was found, overgrown by tree roots and in a semi-ruined state. It is one of the most evocative temples at Angkor.
