Young Gelugpa monks, Tashilhunpo
Young Gelugpa monks, wearing the distinctive yellow hats of the sect, assemble for evening prayers in the Kesang Lhakhang building, Tashilhunpo, the largest monastery in Tibet. Founded in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama, Tashilunpo belongs to the Gelugpa, or 'Yellow Hat' school of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Jankhang Chenmo was erected to house the gigantic statue of the Maitreya Buddha.
