Bunkyo House
Staircase at a house in Bunkyoku, Tokyo, by architect Michimasa Kawaguchi. The theme of the house, for a univeristy professor and his wife, is subdued quietness, and in contrast to light, bright modernism, follows an older Japanese tradition of dark interiors, famously extolled by the writer Junichiro Tanizaki in his 1933 'In Praise of Shadows'.
