Old ceremonial ladder at the Pueblo of Acoma, New Mexico. Acoma, also known as ‘Sky City’, is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the United States. Built on top of a 367-foot-high sandstone mesa. It is located 60 miles west of Albuquerque. The first Westerner to visit was the Spanish commander Francisco Vaques de Coronado in 1540.
