Entrance curtain

The entrance curtain (noren) to a tea-shop in Uji, near Kyoto, carrying the design of a tea-ladle and whisk, both implements used in the japanese tea ceremony. These hanging curtains at the entrance to an establishment were originally contrived as sunshades, but became signs for the wares within. This traditional design is made by using a resist-dyeing technique on an indigo background.
