Old tea tree
Young Akha woman picking tea from the oldest tree in the tea gardens near Baja Akha village. On Bulangshan tea mountain, near Menghai, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan. Age of tree 350-500 years based on diameter. At 3000 yuan per kilo to the owner, the tea from this tree is one of the most expensive in the world. The leaves from old trees in agro-forests are highly valued, not only for the maturity of their taste but also because of the rarity of great age. This year the family negotiated a price ten times that of the average for the mountain with a Taiwanese buyer.
