Bakong
The temple mountain of Bakong, built by the Khmers in 881 AD close to the later site of Angkor, in Cambodia. It was the State Temple of King Indravarman I at Hariharalaya, the capital of the Khmer Empire that preceded Angkor, built in sandstone over a laterite core. As other state temples, it is a microcosm of the Hindu universe. Located close to the town of Roluos, near the shores of the Tonlé Sap lake.
