Swan Lamp
Joseph Swan’s incandescent lamp from 1881, using a carbon filament. Swan began work in 1847, but with many failures due to the filament burning too quickly and brightly. Finally, on 18 December 1878 he presented this model at Newcastle-upon-Tyne and began manufacture in 1881.By the end of the year they were installed in, among other places, the Savoy Theatre, London.
