Novice_monks
Young Burmese boys with shaven heads are ordinated as novice monks, in Wap Win village near Maymyo in central Burma. In Theravada Buddhism, all males should be ordinated and spend at least some weeks in a monastery. The ordination ceremony, known in Burmese as Shin Pyu, normally takes place shortly before the onset of the rainy season, which the novices traditionally will spend in retreat.
