Kapal Bambu, a jewellery showroom built improbably in a rice terrace for jewellery manufacturer John Hardy in Bali. The 13-metre tall structure, designed by Cheong Yew Kuan, has a framework of tall bamboo, thatched with local alang alang grass, and was inspired by inidgenous architecture of the archipelago. The underground area is moisture-proffed with a rendering of beeswax. The toilet, shower and washbasin room is under the building, built around an exisiting tree, the walls rendered with beeswax. Netting guards several parakeets that live in the room.
