The awkwardly-turned feet of an apsara carved on the wall of the early 12th century temple of Thommanon at Angkor, Cambodia. This small but elegant Khmer temple is in the same high classical style as Angkor Wat. Apsaras are celestial dancers who entertain the gods. Khmer artists had difficulty with perspective, and in bas-relief used this solution for depicting feet.
