The large Khmer temple Beng Mealea ('Lotus Pond') some 40 km due east of Angkor is one of the major monuments of the classical period. So far unrestored, it was built in the middle of the 12th century and is in the style of Angkor Wat, but nothing is known of its history. This is the view from the outer gallery of the complex of galleries in the southern part of the outer enclosure, at its SE corner.
