The old tea traders' club in the old part of Simao (Puer), the town in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China, that has long been the centre of tea distribution for the area. Built in the 19th century, it is now semi-derelict, maintained by local government.
The Qing-style old tea traders' club in Simao is one of the last surviving relics of the days when the town was the southern hub of the Tea Horse Road. It is now maintained by the local government, partly as a museum. Pack saddles like these continue to be used in remoter areas, but the still-thriving tea business now relies on trucks and recent expressway.
