A tiny basement space in a Tokyo suburb imaginatively converted into a step-garden by Japanese gardener Masayuki Yoshida. It uses descending ledges made from old railway sleepers to draw light and plants down to this level from the upper garden. The separate plantings are changed with the seasons, four times a year. This is Spring, with a Prunus Shogetsu cherry tree above, chosen for its heavy flowers that look best when seen from below.
