The 'Riesenkessel', largest kettle-hole in the Glacier Garden ('Gletschergarten'), Echerntal, near Hallstatt, Salzkammergut, Austria. Formed by glacial meltwater as the glacier retreated 12,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age, these erosion features were scoured out of the limestone by stones carried by the fast-flowing water. The Dürrenbach river, now much reduced, flows into the Waldbach.
