An award-winning contemporary Japanese house by architect Kiyoshi Kasai. His solution to the problem of utilizing space was to create a single, large area for everything except sleeping, that could be used by the whole family according to the time of day or the occasion. The unrestricted space is made possible by diagonal wooden bracing on ceiling and walls. The curved free-standing wall in the centre shelters the kitchen and a concealed study/play area above. The curved kitchen, in stainless steel, fitted with bulkhead lights and a porthole through to the main room.
