A linga set in its pedestal (yoni) in the temple of the Bayon in Angkor, Cambodia. The linga is the abstract representation of the essence of the Hindu god Shiva, and it is mounted in a pedestal representing its female counterpart. The Bayon, built between the late 12th and late 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII, was the State temple of the time, at the centre of the city of Angkor Thom. It passed through different religious phases and contains religious icons from Hindu and Buddhist faiths.
