View down Fuxing Lu from Wu Hua Lou tower, evening, Dali old town (Dali Gu Chang).
Fuxing Lu, the main street of the old city, maintains its traditional architecture — an essential asset for a town that now lives mainly on tourism. Grass still grows on the roofs in summer. The town’s layout in a square grid, surrounded by a six-kilometre wall was established in 1383 during the Ming dynasty, and has been preserved, with varying degrees of rebuilding and restoration.
