Shao Fan house
The Beijing house and studio of artist Shao Fan, designed by him. Shao Fan is a painter. sculptor and designer with a profound interest in Chinese culture,he drew inspiration from traditional Chinese aesthetics when designing his own house. ..View to the prinicipal courtyard from the glass-walled living area. There are nine courtyards in the large house, which, though contemporary, follows traditional Chibese architectyral principles. In the foreground is one of Shao Fan's furniture artworks: a Ming altar table with raised flanges divided and connected by a perspex section, representing the conflicts faced by contemporary Chinese in accommodating tradition and modern life.
