Schoolgirl and Dagoba

Schoolgirl and Dagoba

A Sri Lankan schoolgirl walks silhouetted against the sunrise over the Bassawakkuluma tank and the Ruvanelisaya dagoba in Anuradhapura. Buddhism arrived in Sri Lanka in the third century BC, when Anuradhapura was the capital, and a number of relic chambers — stupas, known as dagobas in Singhalese — were built.
