Ice Hotel
The main hall at the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, near Kiruna in Swedish Lapland, is the brainchild of owner Yngve Bergqvist. On the banks of the Torne River, one of the purest waters in Europe, it is built of ice blacks harvested from the river. The entire hotel, with its guest bedrooms, suites, reception, hall and Icebar, is at a steady minus 5 degrees Celsius and survives only for the winter. It melts away in spring and is built afresh the following winter. After a night spent on a bed that is a block of ice covered with reindeer furs, guests can, if they wish, take breakfast in their rooms.
