Nilgiri Mountain Railway
Swiss-built steam locomotive of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway at Coonoor station, Nilgiri Hills, Tamil Nadu, India. Built by the British in 1908 to serve the tea plantations, the line runs 42 km from Mettupalayam to Coonoor, and uses a rack-and-pinion system to climb the steep gradient - the steepest in Asia.
