Lushi, an old town on the Tea-Horse route, in the hills north of the Mekong, near Fengqing, southern Yunnan.
Mules and ponies remain an essential means of local transport throughout much of the countryside along the Tea Road, although their numbers are steadily declining as China’s infrastructure develops.
