Angkor Thom Garuda
A giant statue of the myhological man-bird garuda, on the enclosure wall of the temple of Preah Khan, Angkor, Cambodia. The garuda is the steed, or vahana, of the Hindu god Vishnu. The temple, which was also a Buddhist university with over 1,000 teachers, and the centre of a small city, was built by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century, dedicated in 1191. This stupa was added later, in the 16th century.
